Faculty members in the A. James Clark School of Engineering may provide visiting international engineering students (non-degree seeking) with an opportunity for a research internship or training in their laboratories.  Research experiences can range from three weeks to 12 months and may be paid or unpaid.

There are two categories of experiences:

  1. Trainee:  Trainees are required to have a degree and at least one year of work experience.
  2. Intern:  Interns are not required to have a degree.

Exchange Visitor Training Proposal

Faculty members sponsoring a student for an internship or training must submit an Exchange Visitor Internship/Training Proposal.  The proposal includes:

The Exchange Visitor Internship/Training Proposal should be submitted to your department's payroll staff, even if the student is not being paid, so that the student's information can be entered into the ARS system.  Please be aware that your department may have additional forms that need to be completed if you plan to fund the trainee.

The DS-2019 Data Collection Form and DS-7002 Training/Internship Placement Plan must be submitted to International Education Services located in the Mitchell Building (3rd Floor). A copy of the complete Exchange Visitor Training/Internship Proposal should be kept on file in your department office or forwarded to Jane Fines.

The completed mid-point and final evaluation forms should be sent to IES at the conclusion of the internship/training period.
