The Inventis Program will not extend invitations or accept applications for a Fall 2009 cohort.

Inventis: Academy of Engineering Leadership creates a small community of talented students that are mentored by Clark School faculty. The program was initiated in fall 2004 by the former dean of the Clark School, Dr. Nariman Farvardin. Originally the program was known as Inventis: Academy of Engineering Scholarship. In fall 2007 the program adopted a new name to reflect the emphasis on leadership. Currently, the Academy offers special academic and professional development experiences that prepare students for leadership positions in research, teaching and industry.

Inventis is a program dedicated to creating opportunities in the following three areas: leadership, mentoring, and networking.

Leadership. Through the Inventis seminars, students develop knowledge and skills that prepare them to assume leadership roles on campus and in the community. Faculty mentors help students identify research, teaching, and internship opportunities. In addition, Inventis provides a fast track to completing the Minor in Engineering Leadership Development.

Mentoring. Upon accepting the invitation to participate in Inventis, students are paired with a faculty mentor. Through the Inventis seminars, students meet with their mentor once a month to discuss a variety of topics ranging from the transition to college to preparing for interviews. In addition, students engage in activities with their mentor including going out to lunch or dinner, visiting museums, and touring labs.

Networking. Faculty and industry representatives are often guest speakers in the seminars. In addition to providing information about the various engineering fields and roles of an engineer, this interaction provides students with an opportunity to make contacts and exchange ideas.
